Moesly SeaCraft 20' Center Console - History
During one of Moesly's back-water boating trips, he saw a flats boat, very open and with the helm in the center of the boat, rather than on the side as was the current popular style. Not wanting to risk too much in tooling time to test this new concept, Moesly took the 19' Bowrider hull, split it from the deck line down to where the curve of the stem met the keel, spread the bow section out until the boat length would be 19'8". He also spread out the sides at the chine to give a flattened area to act as a spray shield resulting in a dryer ride.
A grid system was introduced for the stringers and thwartship supports for the cockpit sole. The cockpit sole was raised to be self draining and sealed to act as another bottom if the hull was punctured or, if capsied, to trap floatation air.
This totally new design went into production with only a few built and then Moesly waited for the public's response. Nothing.
Six months later, the design suddenly caught the attention of the fisherman, and orders began coming in. It became one of his best sellers.
